Here’s some news popping up this week for creatives to have on their radar. I’ll be writing another post later this week about AI use for writers, as I’ve been seeing more posts about folks using it for copywriting and editorial and more.
I’ll let you know why I think this is a dangerous trend to avoid, both for practical reasons like IP protection and because it puts human writers out of work.

SAG PUSHES DEADLINE
Been an interesting 2023 so far. The strikes drag on. SAG/AFTRA pushed their negotiating deadline, so everything remains in limbo waiting for the outcome of these talks and if they get a new deal—or join the writers on the picket lines.
SUMMER BOX OFFICE PANIC
The summer box office is setting off panic in Hollywood.
A lot is being made of this trend with hot takes and meta-analyses. I have an interesting Twitter thread that just went LIVE about some of the underlying reasons. Something I think nobody is talking about is the death of VHS/DVD and licensing and how that’s putting huge pressure on these SHORT theatrical runs.
